It is no secret among my co- workers and clients that I love Dermalogica’s Dermal Clay Cleanser. Besides being an absolute staple in my own regimen I have found it to be one of the most useful tools I have in my treatment room.
I would say that the Dermal Clay Cleanser is a true treatment cleanser. I love it for it’s versatility and it’s efficacy. It also feels fantastic on the skin and rinses away leaving the skin feeling clean and vital.
Clay has been a used in wellness and skincare dating as far back as ancient Rome.
And while clay and mud masques have been around for ages, a resurgence in the use of clay in beauty preparations seems to be hitting the marketplace. There are many options out there for someone who would like to incorporate clay into their beauty routine but none that I have found to be as easy to use and formulated as beautifully as the Dermal Clay Cleanser.
Using both Kaolin and green clays Dermal Clay can be used as a cleanser as well as a masque. At home I will usually apply it and let it sit for just a few minutes before rinsing it away with warm water. A couple of days a week I will leave it on for 15 minutes before I remove it. The cleanser contains Kaolin and green clay. Both are known to be detoxifying as well as mildly exfoliating making this a fantastic, gentle exfoliating step for someone with sensitive skin or a great preparatory step for an acneic person to follow with a clearing serum.
You do not need to have oily skin to benefit from using a clay cleanser. Because of the high mineral content in green clay and also the regenerating and nutritive benefits of the silica found in kaolin clay this cleanser is an awesome choice for most skin types.
For those of us who use a double cleansing technique this cleanser is the perfect compliment to a pre-cleansing oil.
One of my favorite ways to recommend this product is as an alternative to shaving cream. It is hard to send male clients who suffer from acne and/or folliculitis back out into the world when I know that they are going to use shaving creams and aftershaves that will irritate their skin.
When I found out that you could shave with Dermal Clay I immediately started one of my acneic male clients using it in place of shaving cream. The result was awesome and now he is hooked. I think that it is an absolute must have for the summer months. Not only because of it’s detoxifying, calming and oil absorbent properties but also for how refreshing the mentholated formula feels on the skin. It is an awesome pick me up AM or PM.
Whitney’s Smoothie Recipe
- 2 cups Coconut Water
- 1 Avocado
- 1 tablespoon Spirulina Powder ( I like Nutrex Hawaii brand which I buy at Whole Foods)
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 tablespoon Flax oil
- 1 tablespoon Chia seeds
There are so many superfood smoothies out there.
This is my simple variation that I make every morning. The coconut water provides me with electrolytes and hydration. I get my healthy fats from the avocado, flax oil and chia seeds.
Chia seeds are also a great source of energy. My favorite ingredient is the powdered spirulina which is packed full of protein and b vitamins. The frozen strawberries and pineapple provide vitamin C and also make the whole thing taste awesome.
Because nutrition is so important to skin health I love easy smoothie recipes like this one that are packed with skin healthy ingredients.
Even if I fail to resist the temptation of M&Ms or french fries at lunch at least I know that I started my day on the right foot!
